Artificial intelligence beyond the current turbulence
The launch of chatGPT made artificial intelligence (AI), and in particular generative AI, the hottest topic in the market. Everybody has an opinion about it, ranging from starstruck awe to existential fear. Industry, construction, and infrastructure are no exceptions; digitalisation is ubiquitous, and with digital data comes the opportunity to use AI.
Amid the turbulence of the stern wave behind chatGPT, it is easy to lose sight of the wide range of powerful tools in the AI toolbox. In this talk, Elin will guide us through the turbulence and explain how mathematics and statistics applied to large amounts of data can automate tasks and processes, disrupt business models, redefine search and research, and fuel innovation of new products and services. All this without posing a fundamental threat to most jobs. She then invites the audience to reflect on the flipsides of artificial intelligence, such as responsibility, discriminatory practices, cyber security, and sustainability.
Speaker: Elin Hauge, Futurist and AI Expert

The impact of climate change is many times difficult to grasp. To help us connect to the future in a more urgent and intimate way we have invited Andri Snaer Magnasson who is an Icelandic author, filmmaker, and environmental evangelist. He will share his perspectives from the story Okjökull glacier in Iceland, the first glacier lost to climate change. Andri combines science, history, and mythology to explore big issues. Right now, he’s collaborating with Icelandic architect Arnhildur Pálmadóttir on using molten lava as a sustainable building material.

BREAKOUT SESSION
This talk explores how team awareness and adaptability drive success in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. Effective project execution depends on the ability of teams to adapt their communication and collaboration strategies to meet diverse challenges, particularly during project meetings. By examining the nuances of different meeting styles—coordination, cooperation, and collaboration—as well as the dynamics of virtual, in-person, and hybrid settings, this presentation offers insights for setting up project teams and optimizing meetings across project phases.
Speaker: Kristine Slotina, Nordic Office of Architecture
Stage: Live in Oslo. Streamed to Stockholm and the digital audience.
Room: Mainstage

As sustainability regulations evolve, integrating Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) into early-stage decision-making is more critical than ever. The UK, for instance, has unique requirements, with the UK Net Zero Carbon Building Standard placing increasing emphasis on in-use emissions reporting. Sweden, for example, mandates LCA as part of building regulations, affecting early material choices—such as whether to build with steel or wood. Elsewhere in Europe, frameworks like the EU Taxonomy are beginning to shape sustainability in design and construction.
This roundtable will explore how BIM workflows can help designers, architects, and stakeholders make informed decisions that support long-term sustainability. With the increasing focus on carbon tracking and meeting industry expectations, we will discuss:
- How BIM enables better data reuse for sustainability insights across a project’s lifecycle
- When and how key material decisions are made, considering factors such as cost, availability, carbon impact, and regional regulations
- The role of Digital Twins in embodied carbon tracking, refurbishment strategies, and long-term emissions monitoring
- How evolving frameworks and standards are shaping sustainability data use in design and construction
This interactive discussion will allow for an open exchange of ideas, focusing on practical solutions and real-world insights as to how to seamlessly integrate LCA and sustainability into BIM workflows and to support informed decision-making from design to operation.
Moderator: Anett Andreassen, Virvle SA
Stage: Live in Oslo
Room: Blankvann
In this roundtable we will explore the power of Sharing is caring. Is sharing of knowledge a necessity to bring our industry forward? Have we established forums where knowledge sharing is possible? And – whenever a project is finished: do we receive the needed time to evaluate and contemplate – or do we run to the next project and repeat our workflows and methods?

PARALLEL BREAKOUT SESSIONS
We continue to embrace new technologies, all the way from scripts, automation, apps, clouds, to artificial intelligence. The benefits at the first glance all seem clear - promise to save time and drive efficiency. However, the reality often doesn't align with these expectations. Delays, overbudgets, and outdated business models still hinder progress. To address these challenges, it's essential to openly discuss the issues and seek solutions together. I believe that redefining collaboration across all stakeholders - owners, designers, contractors, suppliers, operators, and more - can unlock real value for everyone. But transformation requires us to rethink our approach, share risks, and move away from conservative models that have held us back. Only then can we truly transform the industry.
